Pepin Moore is proud to present Gemini, an exhibition of new works by Amir Nikravan, on view from May 26th through June 30th 2012. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, May 26th from six to eight in the evening.
For his first solo exhibition with the gallery, Nikravan continues his ongoing exploration of the complex and dynamic relationship between the art object and his role as maker. Using materials such as muslin and fiberglass window screen, Nikravan sets up predetermined systems in which these malleable materials are painted as three-dimensional sculptural forms, then presented unfurled as two-dimensional paintings. Under these conditions, the corpus of the art object itself becomes the central subject of the works. The resulting paintings register the traces of their physio-temporal sculptural states as pictures of their own materiality; reflecting and embodying indexes of time, process, and performance.
Amir Nikravan (b. 1983, Los Angeles, CA) is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. He holds a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and MFA from the University of California, Irvine. Nikravan’s work has been exhibited at Workspace, Los Angeles; Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Santa Monica; Infernoesque, Berlin; Acuna Hansen Gallery, Los Angeles; and Las Cienegas Projects, Los Angeles, among others.
