Pepin Moore is proud to present Jamais Vu, an exhibition of new photographs and sculptures by Emilie Halpern on view from January 14th through February 18th 2012. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, January 14th from seven to nine in the evening.

"Jamais vu," a term literally translated to "never seen," describes the phenomena of experiencing a familiar situation as if for the first time. In her new body of work, Emilie Halpern continues her exploration of obscure physical realities that are always present but rarely thought of. The works included in Jamais Vu juxtapose examinations of volume, time, and space within the greater theme of human mortality. From Drown, where the amount of ocean water that would fill human lungs is poured on the gallery floor every day, to Solar Delay, a photograph of the sun exposed for the last eight minutes of a day (the same amount of time the light takes to arrive at Earth), the works evoke the sky and sea as descriptors of life and death, in an attempt to collapse the divergent concepts into a singular experience.

Emilie Halpern (b. 1976, Paris, France) is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. She holds a BA from the University of California Los Angeles and MFA from Art Center College of Design. Halpern’s work has been exhibited at Anna Helwing Gallery, Los Angeles; Art Palace, Houston; Blum and Poe, Los Angeles; Richard Telles Fine Art, Los Angeles; and Leo Koenig, New York, among others. Jamais Vu is the artist’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.
